Spanish Media Interviews Andrade's Neighbors

My friend's co-workers mother was flipping through the Spanish channels and saw your dad's story and the press conference. Then they showed the Spanish reporter (a lady) go to the trailer park where he used to live and knock on his door. No one answered. Then the reporter saw a neighbor and started interviewing her. The neighbor had no idea this guy was a criminal.

U.S. Marshals and Crime-Stoppers UPDATES

"Crime-stoppers has gotten a few calls. One of the callers said that Andrade was in Houston on the 4th, which we already knew. The caller said that he had gotten rid of his truck and was now driving a car. He did not know what kind of car it was, but told Crime-stoppers that he would call back with the info. He also said that Andrade was going back to North Carolina or Georgia. This call came in on the afternoon of the press conference. The caller did not leave his name or phone number and has not called back.

The tip at the Dollar Store turned out to be a woman that had been in the store. She has not called back.

Another tip came in that he had been seen the week before at an office building on Westpark. The caller did not say which day he was supposedly there or how she knew that it was Andrade since the press conference had not even occurred on the day that she supposedly saw him.

Apparently, the Marshals included Andrade's warrant in that Operation Falcon II that has been going on for a couple of weeks. I have not heard back from them." --Phil

Update from HPD Sergeant

Jade received an email update from Sergeant Phil Guerrero this morning:

"I did get one tip of a sighting at a Dollar store on Aldine Bender. I went to the store, but no one seemed to know what I was talking about. The caller did not leave a name at Crime-stoppers. It was one of those overnight calls and I don't have a person to talk to and get more info. I am hoping that he is still in Houston and that someone will come forward with the information that will help. I have not heard from the U.S. Marshals, but they had said that they would only call if they had anything good. The Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force is also working on finding Andrade." --Sgt. Guerrero

New Crime Stoppers Press Conference Clip on MEDIA page and new entries on SHARED THOUGHTS page

We have added the latest media clip from the Crime Stoppers press conference on April 20, 2006. We had several family/friends come out to the press conference this Thursday: thanks to my husband - Patrick Wang, Pastor Su, my aunt from Malaysia - Ann Lau, in-laws Henry and Wendy Wang, and my friends Teresa Lee, Christine Ha, and Karen Lang for coming to support us.

This press conference was aired on the local news stations including the Hispanic stations. The Crime Stoppers Executive Director is hoping that national news will pick this up - she has submitted to shows like America's Most Wanted, Nancy Grace (CNN), etc. Hopefully with this in addition to our family's submissions to the national stations, the story will be picked up at a national level.

There has also been an addition on the SHARED THOUGHTS page written by the New Life Chinese Baptist Church members (my father's old church).

Quick Update - Federal investigators now working to apprehend Andrade

I just received word that the federal investigators (US Marshals) are now working to arrest Andrade, probably related to us contacting our senators. I'm not 100% sure whether they've taken over the pursuit of Andrade in place of HPD, or whether they are sharing responsibility, but this is definitely good news, as more resources are being committed to Andrade being arrested and facing trial.

I will update this page as we discover more.

I'm going to share some emails that have been sent among family and friends over the last few weeks:

Monday - April 10, 2006

Passing out Flyers: Friday after work, a group of 7 friends and I went to the area where Andrade was last seen on Wednesday (few blocks away from my father’s restaurant). We split up in 3 different groups to try to cover as much area as possible. We also printed out Spanish and English versions of the murder case details and a summary of my Dad’s life to post up at high traffic areas and handout to random strangers and owners/workers of stores. It was amazing the response we got and the number of people that knew Baba even though he had only worked there for 3 months. “Oh, I met your father before! He sings!” Almost EVERYONE had heard about the murder – but the 1st time they saw a picture of Andrade was when we handed them the picture. “That’s the BASTARD?” was a very common question. People would crowd around the picture we posted and the stories we posted. They would want to know more, get angry along with us, and scream “LORD HAVE MERCY!!!” Then request more copies so that they can hand them out to their family and friends. While I was driving away from gas stations, people would be knocking at my window with the story in there hand with just a few more questions. So many people were completely outraged. Even in an area like that where crime is high – this was a VERY extreme case to everyone. But the biggest shock to all these people was “THIS GUY ISN”T CAUGHT YET?!” Everyone thought he was caught already because the HPD already ID’ed the guy 3 weeks ago. We ran out of copies with people demanding more. My plan was to go out there again this weekend, but never got the chance to. If there is no progress by Tuesday, I will definitely go out there again. I just hope Andrade is still hanging around Houston.

Alright, that’s it for the updates. Call or email me if you have any questions. Again, I know God is in control and has a master plan. But just like spreading the Gospel, we can’t just sit back and expect God’s will to be done. I don’t know if passing out the flyers will or will not help catch the killer, but at least I know that my father’s story is getting out to different people and continually touching different lives. My goal as his daughter is to never let my father’s story die. It will die for each person, but I’ll be just around the corner to remind you again.

Killer is back in Houston. Real quick status – we FINALLY got a hold of the sergeant this morning and he told us that Leon Andrade has been back in Houston since Monday – 100% confirmed from surveillance cameras at gas stations. He was spotted by the Tidwell/Yale area these past few days and does not plan to leave until he kills his wife. He drives a Chevy Pickup. This is all the info I know – I am waiting to hear back from the sergeant myself.

My family,
Last night we sang and pray together with a fellowship from FBCC. We praise the Lord, they learned the song the sisters sang at the funeral – ‘It is well with My soul’.
They shared the impact of my husband in their life. How boldly he preached. The last time he went to the fellowship about few months back. After the meeting, everybody was going for the snack and gossip, he kneeled down with an older woman from Mainland and that was her first time to the fellowship. She followed him word for word to accept Christ right in the room:

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek

A non-believer followed the crowd to my husband’s funeral just want to see what Christians did after a tragedy (He didn’t ever know my husband) and he followed them to the graveyard, then he asked them if he could accept Jesus as savior.
The reason I am sharing the stories at this moment is I want my family to know what my husband cared the most.

I am asking you to pray neither to other gods nor other temples but to the only God.
The prayer not only catching the killer but also let us serve our God at this moment.

Now it is my purpose to make clear to you, brothers, that the cause of the good news has been helped by my experiences;

Let this mind be in you which was in Christ Jesus

Wednesday – March 29, 2006

I wanted to give everyone some updates since we finally had the opportunity to meet with the mother/daughter witnesses face to face last night. Also, we had discovered a few days ago that the store next door had a 24 hour surveillance camera that caught most of the events that night on tape and HPD finally got a hold of it and showed us the footage as well last night. I haven’t had a chance to call everyone back and share with everyone how my family is healing and coping so far. We are just hanging in there and trying to get back to our lives slowly – spending a lot of time with each other and praying a lot. As for the case, Shane and I have been actively writing Senators and contacting media to heighten the awareness of this dangerous man who has not been caught yet. Our friends have just been amazing in helping us through their media connections, sacrificing their time to try everything they can to help in every way possible, and just being there to support us emotionally through this time. My uncle and numerous family friends have been contacting Asian associations and media to get my father’s story out as well. Our loving friends have been making us amazing dinners and bringing it over to my mom’s house every night. I can’t express how appreciative I am for all the prayers, emails, letters, cards, words of encouragement, donations, time you all have sacrificed for us, or even just the time you are all taking out to read our emails. THANKS SO MUCH for the love you have all poured on us. We are truly blessed.

A dear friend of ours is putting together my father’s website. I will update everyone once the website is done. Hopefully THAT will be the last mass email I send out regarding our father’s case – that way you can check periodically on the website for latest status on everything instead of me bugging all of you with these emails. Lastly, I know a lot of people have written about my father these past 2 weeks. If you wanted to share any part of it and possibly put it on the website, please send me your writing or call me to talk.

There was a press conference this afternoon with the local media mainly focused on my father’s murderer who is still on the run.

He was traced to Dallas last week. His van was found in Georgia this week and there have been leads that he may be heading towards North Carolina. It has been 10 days and they know exactly what he looks like, had his car description and license plate - and still have not been able to bring him in. We are pressing for heightened awareness of this killer. Below email has the link to the clip from Channel 11. Let me know if anyone has got Channel 2 or 13 recorded… OR if you have a clip from Channel 2 News at 5 on Friday last week focused with my father’s life story, please email me as well.

As I mentioned to some of you, Leon Andrade is an illegal alien that has gotten away with a lot of crime over the past 15 years (including a murder) because most of his victims have been other illegal aliens who have refused to press charges in order to secure their own freedom in America. This is a huge immigration issue because what happens is criminals that are illegal aliens get away with more than a citizen can and victims/witnesses stay silent – both of which are crimes that our country should not tolerate.

We finally sat down with the investigators and also received some information from the medical examiner yesterday. Our family wanted to know the details of the case since we were seeing so many different variations from the media. A lot of you have been asking our family which one is accurate so my brother, Shane, has put together all the detailed events leading up to the night of the murder as told by witnesses (attached). We are also hoping to meet with the main witnesses (mother and daughter) in the near future once they are ready to talk to us.

My father’s passion in life was helping people, especially strangers. He always initiated his own mission trips overseas wherever he saw a need, touching many lives in the process. Whenever news hit reporting natural disasters or something major happening in other countries, we knew we wouldn’t see our father for a while since he would be there in a heartbeat. There was no limit to his love. Contributing with donations was not enough for him – he had to get physically involved in these organizations all around the world. One of the most recent projects he wanted to get involved with was going to the Henan Province in China where up to 40% are HIV positive. Even among missions trips, this was definitely “less glamorous” – many missionaries were hesitant to go to this region of China. To my father, this was more of a reason to go. Our family discouraged his idealism strongly but my father continued talking about it in hopes we would change our mind. After the recent tragedy, the family has decided to support in physical and financial forms towards these charities in his memory.

So in lieu of flowers, donations will also be graciously accepted so that we may contribute towards these organizations in which my father was so passionate about.

Monday - March 13, 2006

Hey girls,

I wanted to give you guys a quick email before you find out from another source since people have been calling since it’s on the news. I hate doing this through email but right now – I can’t pick up the phone and talk to anyone decently. My dad was killed last night when closing his store up. The entire family including my in-laws were at my parents’ house celebrating Christian’s 10th birthday and my dad left at to go back to the store to close up. An employee’s estranged husband came in and started a fight with her (she was pregnant and also had a daughter working there as well). My Dad tried to break up the fight and the man went to his van and grabbed a machete and attacked my dad. He died of several blows to his head from the machete. The man had a history of violence with this woman. The man was intoxicated as well. The news so far is they have not caught him.

That is all we know. My mom had to find out on her own when she drove there at 4am this morning on the way to Dallas since my Dad never showed up at night. Shane is on his way here – I got him a flight out of San jose and he should be arriving 8:30pm tonight. Please pray for our family especially my mom who is not taking this very well. Also pray to give me strength to take care of my mom and my siblings during this time of crisis. I will be talking to you all very soon.
